What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Replace Shift Leader as required and assist in performance of their duties
  • Plan and the staffing levels to ensure they are adequate to meet daily work targets
  • Observe shift start up for issues and monitor/correct production obstacles as they arise
  • Inform Shift Leader of issues that arise during shift
  • Ensure Group Leaders are compliant to all GM policies, procedures and established practices
  • Develops and maintains labour relations and compliance to the local agreement.
  • Assist in development/execution of Level 2 business plan deployment
  • Support department operations to achieve objectives in safety, quality, productivity, and cost (SPQRC)
  • Utilize the Global Manufacturing System (GMS) to drive continuous improvement in all areas of production
  • Develop and Drive HPU/CPU cost reduction initiatives
  • Ensure quality targets are met through coordination with Quality Crew Lead
  • Active role in daily production/quality meetings
  • Responsible for the coordination of lunch and break runs based on greatest needs of the shop
  • Monitor the department for bottlenecks and provide assistance to Group Leaders as required
  • Backfill the departmental Group Leaders if required
  • Assist in planning/development of product launch activities and process changes together with Pilot Group, as well as managing compliance training for the shift
  • Provide mentorship and training to Group Leaders regarding their duties and responsibilities
  • Participate and lead in business projects as directed by department Manager
  • Assist in CAP process/completion for Group Leader
  • Engage in audit process of Level 4 business plan
  • Assist in implementation of CIP initiatives
  • Assist in annual hourly vacation planning
  • Assist Department Planner in long term planning of departmental objectives

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Related university degree preferred/college diploma
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a production environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated integrity and excellent organizational skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to coach and support team members in order to develop them to their full potential
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated adaptability to varying work hours, including overtime and ability to work across all shifts as needed

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) 

  • Working knowledge of the Collective Agreement and familiarity with employment legislation
  • Production supervision experience in a unionized environment
  • Understanding of the GMS and departmental & plant scorecard metrics
