Job Description:

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Managing the refinery’s IH programs, equipment, training, and auditing program implementation
  • Addressing IH/occupational health questions and concerns with employees and staff
  • Developing and executing the refinery’s Exposure Assessment and IH Monitoring Plans
  • Developing and communicating metrics, trends, and recommendations to management
  • Providing IH leadership during planning and execution of maintenance turnarounds and outages
  • Acting as the site’s IH/Occupational Health Subject Matter Expert (SME) for PSM Management of Change (MOC) requests
  • Serving as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) ensuring compliance with radioactive materials license requirements and x-ray device registration requirements
  • Working with contractors to ensure they meet IH program regulatory and company requirements
  • Supports the refinery as a Health & Safety Resource as needed
  • Participating as a member of the site Health & Safety team, promoting safe work practices, leading by example, and providing general safety support as needed which may include backfilling for field safety support
  • Supporting the refinery Emergency Response Team with site and community air quality monitoring
  •  Provides on-call IH/Safety support as needed
  • Serving as the site’s TSCA coordinator
  • Networking with other Phillips 66 HSE functions on IH issues
  • Participating in the corporate Industrial Hygiene Steering Team (IHST)

Required Qualifications: 

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Loss Prevention, Toxicology, Environmental Science or related field
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge in conducting IH exposure monitoring and assessments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Effective writing, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC); Information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
  • Willing and able, with or without a reasonable accommodation, to:
  • Climb stairs and ladders on and around process equipment
  • Work outside in all weather conditions
  • Walk, stand, stoop, sit, climb, and carry material on even and uneven terrain
  • Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • Wear a respirator, including a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
    Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree from an ABET accredited program
  • 5 or more years of experience as an industrial hygienist or a safety professional managing IH programs
  • Certification as a CIH or CSP, or the ability to attain certification within a year
  • Experience developing and implementing OSHA and New Jersey state laws and regulatory programs
  • Experience with IH software: Medgate/Cority, MSDSonline/Velocity EHS, and Industrial Scientific’s iNet
