POTENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect, validate, and diligently maintain data to support monthly settlement, OPCO close processes, analyses, and regulatory filing responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate keen attention to detail and the ability to identify discrepancies in operational processes and data.
  • Complete monthly gas journals according to established control structure to ensure the integrity of the company financials.
  • Perform reconciliations of counterparty and pipeline invoices against the gas management system, making necessary adjustments while ensuring the retention of appropriate documentation.
  • Manage the intricacies of specialized gas contracts and provide clear explanations of the operations behind the accounting.
  • Establish and sustain positive relationships with customers in commodity and transportation sectors, as well as internal clients and other stakeholders, to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Manage settlement cycle of receipts and payments in Oracle Receivables, Oracle Payables, and General Ledger, while adhering to the control structure.
  • Provide timely payment instructions and cash forecast information to the Treasury Department
  • Actively address aged debt reporting and resolution.
  • Offer detailed analysis and timely responses to data requests from auditors, internal customers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in the development of automated tools/systems that will maximize the efficiency of business processes.
  • Master available technological resources

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Math, Engineering, or related fields required.

Experience:

  • Must have 3 years of experience working as an Analyst, Accountant, or related fields.
  • Experience in natural gas settlement and/or gas accounting preferred
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and summarizing large volumes of data
  • Experience within Generation, Fuel, Finance and/or Accounting is preferred
  • Experience or a working knowledge of accounting and Oracle is desired.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • General competency in the natural gas industry from wellhead to burner tip including operational and financial aspects desired.
  • Excellent Excel skills, including the ability to use advanced features
  • Ability to collect & analyze data/detailed information
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and Microsoft software applications
  • Proven ability to communicate well and work closely with others
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to balance multiple assignments and responsibilities
  • Understanding of GAAP, FERC, SEC and other applicable rules, regulations, and reporting requirements, as well as, Southern Company policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to Generation, Fuel, Transmission and Separation Protocol
