Security Monitoring Analyst @ CoinBase

Job Information

Job Description:

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

This unique position seeks to address requirements for both the Security and Legal teams at Coinbase through technical knowledge and detection efforts that support company policy and regulatory requirements.  While no two days will end up looking the same, generally-speaking you’ll be responsible for the following things:

  • Monitoring business use of messaging applications and platforms to ensure compliance with company policy
  • Crafting detection and detection methodologies that identify and prevent unsanctioned communication of company information or data
  • Identifying concerning behavior and communicating policy violating conduct to end users
  • Reviewing alerts, escalating reports, conducting analysis, and making recommendations to improve processes
  • Supporting the team’s effort to educate our employees, contractors, and partners on the importance of being vigilant in their work and home security practices
  • Collaborating cross-functionally throughout the company (Security, Legal, HR, and Business Teams) to design, implement, and execute processes to safeguard against potential insider risks and threat actors
  • Enabling data loss prevention capabilities
  • Contributing to investigative efforts, data collection, and analysis as needed
  • Manage monitoring tools and the implementation of detections and rules

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

Some security teams have strict requirements about certifications, degrees, years of experience, and things like that. Not us! We’re more interested in the unique perspectives and expertise you’ll bring to the team, rather than the acronyms on your resume. However, you’ll be much more likely to be successful in this role if these bullet points seem like a good description of you:

  • 4+ years of combined experience in security/analytic/monitoring roles (ex. Insider Threat, Security Operations Center, Incident Response, eDiscovery, etc.)
  • Actively engages technology and is highly familiar with messaging and social media applications, including but not limited to: WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Discord, X (formerly Twitter), etc.
  • Are comfortable with insider threat detection technologies, endpoint tools, and user behavioral analytics
  • Have a basic ability to code, use SQL, interpret logs, and craft detections within SIEM, endpoint tools, and user behavioral analytics tools
  • Are discreet and thoughtful, with an eye towards reducing risk and improving end user experience
  • Enjoy conducting analysis
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Other team members ask for your input to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Enjoy constantly learning about blockchains, crypto, Web 3, and the future of finance
  • Understand that everyone makes mistakes. Your high degree of compassion means that your coworkers trust you to help tackle their security problems, because you never come across as judgmental or condescending

Nice to haves:

  • Bring a diverse perspective to the team: for example, maybe you took an unconventional route to get into your current security career.
  • Love crafting metrics that make the intangible tangible
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: data protection, risk management, counterintelligence, fraud detection, intellectual property theft, access and identity management, or security engineering
  • Security/investigations certifications

Benefits:
Experience Level: Mid-Senior
Work From: Remote from Country United States of America
