Sr Powerplant Programs Analyst @ Southwest Airlines

Job Description:


    • Review, monitor, and evaluate powerplant systems and component performance using defined performance metrics in order to provide an accurate assessment of engine fleet safety, health, and reliability
    • Evaluate powerplant program tasks to ensure optimal intervals for efficiency, reliability, and cost
    • Calculate fleet performance data to support maintenance actions required to keep SWA engines operating at desired levels
    • Effectivity partners with cross-functional teams both in Tech Ops and across the Company by developing/updating fleet performance and aircraft removal forecasting models
    • Serves as a subject matter expert in Tech Ops on Powerplant forecasting, engine optimization and tools within Tech Ops
    • Continuously evaluates Industry standards, best practices, and new software and applications and informs leadership of opportunities for improvements to ensure that Tech Ops is leading in those respective areas
    • Provide internal (Maintenance and Engineering), and external (vendors and manufacturers) customers with powerplant reliability data summaries, statistics and analysis
    • Maintain compliance with FAA requirements
    • Develop customized computing solutions to aid in data access and presentation using a variety of software applications such as Microsoft , CDCS, Tableau, Quickbase, Alteryx and other software as necessary
    • Work closely with Engineering and other organizations to support Reliability Program and aircraft performance related requests
    • Analyze/update periodic engine derate and max thrust usage reports
    • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

    • Knowledge of CFM56 powerplant systems, FAA requirements and aircraft maintenance programs is desired, with proficiency in engine greentime
    • Knowledge of Aviation or Technical Operations
    • Skilled at developing conclusions to complex analysis of aircraft and component problems
    • Skilled in computer software and business intelligence tools; including but not limited to Alteryx, Tableau, and Quick Base, and data integration methodologies and tools
    • Expertise in presentation building and presenting to leadership with strong communication skills.
    • Skilled in evaluating which analytic method(s) are appropriate for which type of business problem and make recommendations for innovative solutions, using both inductive and deductive reasoning and problem solving approaches
    • Skilled in structuring and organizing large sets of data and in order to conduct advanced level analysis; and deriving patterns and analysis from both structured and unstructured data.
    • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, tailoring presentations and delivery to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization, including Executive leaders. Communication needs include providing feedback and advising at all levels of Leadership on powerplant data and forecasts
    • Ability to work with limited supervision and prioritize assignments by budgeting time effectively to accomplish assignments and projects in a timely manner
    • Ability to work effectively in an environment of ambiguity and achieve productivity in an unstructured environment through thoughtful question-asking, self-structuring, creative ingenuity, and self-management


    • Required: High School Diploma or GED
    • Required: Bachelor’s Degree


  • Advanced level experience in analytics, engineering or decision science methodologies with focused expertise in Alteryx, Tableau, Quickbase or other Business Intelligence applications
  • Preferred: Experience with data mining, data visualization, and modeling

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
